Jeanne met Modigliani at the Art Academy Colarossi in 1917. She became his woman and the main subject of his paintings.
All the regulars of the Parisian clubs of Montparnasse could attend the public quarrel between the two lovers, mostly due to Modigliani’s alcool dependence.
On 24th of January 1920, Modigliani died.
The following day Jeanne Hébuterne killed herself, jumping from the window.
She was almost 22 and she was nine months pregnant.
On his grave is written:
“Devoted companion to the extreme sacrifice.”
